A standard pass is great for venues with large capacities. It offers flexible ticketing, allowing guests to enter without being tied to a specific time. This makes it ideal for general admission.
Standard passes work well for day passes, multi-use passes and season or annual passes. They provide convenience for guests and improve efficiency for the venue by not needing schedules. Guests can purchase these passes both online and on arrival at an entry POS.
When to use
Standard passes are best for places like theme parks or larger water parks where flexibility in guest arrival times is important. Unlike session passes, which are tied to a specific start time, standard passes allow open entry. They are perfect for:
- Event tickets: Guests can attend on a specific date, but without a set arrival time.
- Day passes: Ideal for one-time use, allowing guests to arrive anytime during the day.
- Multi-passes: Guests can visit multiple times over a set period (eg every Sunday for a month).
- Season/Annual passes: Guests can visit as often as they want during the pass period.
Step 1: Create a new standard pass
To get started with creating a new standard pass to sell at your venue:
- From Venue Manager, go to Products > Create product.
- Select the Standard pass product type.
- The standard pass product settings open for you to customize. Read on for instructions on how to customize.
Step 2: Add the content
In this section, enter the basic product information:
- Name (required): What the guest and staff see.
- Description: A brief description (150 characters max) for online sales.
- Detailed description: A longer explanation accessible through a "Learn more" link.
- Image: Upload a 640 x 390 pixel JPG or PNG image to make the product stand out.
- Tags: Use tags to manage and group products for easy organization, for example in online checkouts.
Step 3: Configure the standard pass details
Create different ticket options such as adult, child, peak, off-peak, concession, or family tickets.
- Update the placeholder ticket type name (General admission) and price.
- Set the ticket quantity
For tickets where the guest can show up at any time, set the ticket as Unlimited. Any limit you set here will restrict the number of tickets available overall.
If you're using a resource to manage capacity for the ticket type (see settings below), keep Unlimited checked. This means that when guests purchase a standard pass ticket, it will reduce the venue capacity of the resource for the entire day.
- Customize the advanced settings:
Setting Description Add a ticket description Enter text for the ticket description. Options include bold, italicize, underline, bullet points, numbering and adding links. Set a minimum and maximum purchase Specify the minimum and maximum ticket purchase quantity per guest in a single transaction. Resources (optional) Select a resource from the drop-down menu. If you're using resources, keep the quantity as "Unlimited" in the ticket details above so that it manages capacity from the resource settings. Standard passes with resources set the capacity for the entire day. For this reason, standard passes are not recommended for venues with a smaller overall venue capacity. Force minimum purchase Require guests to purchase at least the minimum quantity for this ticket variation. Group pass Specify the number of guests for family or group tickets. Override sales period for this ticket Set a specific sales period for this ticket type, overriding other product-level settings for the entire pass. Choose the sale start date and time, and end date and time. Override image (POS only) If you want a different image for each ticket variation at POS, you can upload a file. Please note that ticket type images are not displayed in the online checkout. Hide from online sales Ticking this box will prevent the ticket type from being sold online. It can only be purchased through Venue Manager or at POS. Tax override Allows you to select a different tax option from your default venue tax settings for the ticket type. You can also choose to make it tax inclusive by checking the box.
Step 4: Set the sales availability
Set dates for when the pass can be used. Unlike session passes, you don't set up schedules for standard passes. Instead, use this section to indicate when the pass is available for purchase.
Which days can this pass be used? (required)
- Select specific or recurring dates for when the pass can be used.
- Select the checkbox to enter customized text for when the pass is available to use in email order confirmations and product details page in online checkouts.
For example:
- Valid for 10 uses from date of purchase
- Valid for one year from date of purchase
- Doors open at 6pm, 31 March 2023
Set when guests can access the pass online
- Set a date rule to determine when guests can purchase this product online.
- For instance, allow guests to purchase this pass only at 12 PM every day or make it available 24/7 until a fixed date.
Exclusion period
- Choose dates when the pass is unavailable, such as holidays or closed days.
- For example, every Tuesday and Thursday or when your business is closed, such as public holidays including Christmas and New Year's Day.
