HQ-managed venue permissions give you greater control over the features and product settings your venues can create or modify, helping you maintain consistency across your venues.
It also simplifies venue management by allowing you to create and assign custom permissions groups to similar types of venues. Any changes made to the group's venue permissions are automatically applied to venues that have been assigned to that group.
This guide shows you how to create and manage venue permissions in your HQ account.

Learn moreHow it works
- Your HQ venue includes two system venue permissions groups: All permissions (with all venue permissions enabled) and No permissions (with no venue permissions enabled). You cannot modify the permissions for these two groups.
- By default, the All permissions group applies to all new linked venues unless you change the default group.
- You can also create your own custom permissions groups for the venues you want to assign the same venue permissions. For example, you can have one permissions group for franchise venues and one for owner-operated venues.
- Once you've created your own permission groups, you can change the default permissions group for all new venues to one of these and also change the permissions groups assigned for your existing venues.
- Any changes you make to the venue permissions in a permissions group automatically apply to venues that have been assigned that group.
View your venue permissions groups
- From HQ Venue Manager, go to Venues > Permissions.
- A list of all your permissions groups appear.
From here, you can see:
- The system permissions groups: All permissions and No permissions. A lock icon indicates that you can't modify the permissions for these groups.
- Any custom permissions groups you've created.
- The default permissions group. You can easily change this default group.
- The number of venues that have been assigned to each permissions group.
Create a permissions group
In addition to the system permission groups, you can create permission groups with their own custom set of venue permissions and then assign the groups to each venue.
- From HQ Venue Manager, go to Venues > Permissions.
- Select Create permissions group.
- Give your group a descriptive name (eg Cannot edit products).
- Select the venue permissions you want to allow.
- Select Save to create the new permission group.
Only one permissions group can be assigned to a venue.
Change a venue’s permissions group
- From Venue Manager, go to Venues > All venues.
- For the venue you want to change, select the options menu (3 dots), then select Change permissions.
- Select the new permissions group.
- Select Confirm.
Change the default permissions group
By default the system All permissions group is added to all new venues. Unless you change the default permissions group, any new venues linked to HQ will have access to all venue permissions.
To change the default permissions group:
- From HQ Venue Manager, go to Venues > Permissions.
- For the permission group you want to make the default group, select the options menu (3 dots).
- Select Make default.
Duplicate a permissions group
If you want to make a new venue permissions group with minor differences to an existing one, you can save time by duplicating the exiting permissions group.
- From HQ Venue Manager, go to Venues > Permissions.
- For the permissions group you want to copy, select the options menu (3 dots)
- Select Duplicate.
- Make any changes to the permissions.
- Select Save.
Edit a permissions group
While you can't edit the two system permission groups, you can edit any of the permissions groups you've created. Any changes you make to a permissions group automatically apply to all managed venues that have been assigned to that group.
- From HQ Venue Manager, go to Venues > Permissions.
- For the permission group you want to make changes to, select the options menu (3 dots)
- Select Edit.
- Make your changes to the permissions the associated venues can create or edit.
- Select Save.
