One of the advantages of using ROLLER’s cloud printing service is that you can configure backup docket printers to support your primary docket printers.
It’s important to configure your backups in case the primary printer has problems. Printing switches to the backup automatically, so orders are still printed, and guests get what they ordered. For example, a cafe receipt printer can be the backup for a production area printer. You can only have one level of backup printing.
This guide walks though how to confirm you can select a backup printer when creating your print stations in Venue Manager.
Step one: Check that docket printing has been selected for your print station
You can only select a backup printer for your print station if one of the functions of your printer is docket printing.
To confirm that you’ve configured this correctly, follow the steps below.
- From Venue Manager, go to Settings > Devices.
- Find the correct print station from the devices list and then select the options menu (3 dots) at the end of the row.
- Select Edit from the dropdown menu.
- Then, under Function make sure that Production docket printer is selected.
- Once this is done, a new section should appear: Backup printer. Now you can select your backup printer from the dropdown.
- Select Save.
If you’ve selected Production docket printer as a function of your print station and you cannot select a backup printer from the dropdown menu, move on to step two.
Step two: Confirm that you have more than one print station
You’ll only be able to select a backup printer from the dropdown, if you’ve configured more than one print station in Venue Manager. If you don’t have more than one print station configured in Venue Manager, there will be nothing for you to select because there’s no other print station to choose from.
To check that you have more than one print station available, go back to your devices list (Settings > Devices) and review how many print stations have been created.
If you only have one print station, you can create more by following the steps in the guide Create your print stations. You should have one print station per printer at your venue.
