This guide outlines the subscription and hardware requirements for using the Mobile Check-in app.
Subscription requirements
Add-on feature
The Mobile Check-in app is an add-on feature to your existing plan. To subscribe, check you meet the requirements below and then contact your customer success manager or the support team.
Hardware requirements
Mobile Check-in can work across a range of browsers and devices, but support varies depending on the device’s specifications, operating system, and hardware capabilities.
While you can test compatibility on your own devices, we recommend meeting the specifications below to get the most reliable experience.
If you plan to use Mobile Check-in at a large event, test your exact device and scanning method before go-live.
| Specification | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Android (latest version). |
| Browser | Chrome (latest version). |
| Recommended device | Any mobile device with an embedded or peripheral barcode scanner (ie a specific scanner device). Barcode scanning is the recommended option for the most reliable scanning experience. |
Devices may detect NFC tags, but NFC performance can vary by device and may not work consistently for booking lookup. Where possible, use a barcode scanner or the device’s camera instead.
You don’t need a device with an embedded scanner, but it can provide a faster and more reliable ticket scanning experience. Examples include the Urovo DT50 and the Custom P-Ranger.
Barcode scanning hardware is compatible with the app when it can pass scanned data into the device like a keyboard, which most scanning hardware can do.
FAQs
What is NFC?
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless technology that lets devices exchange data when they are held very close together. In Mobile Check-in, NFC can be used to read data from a compatible NFC tag and attempt a booking lookup. Compatibility depends on the device and how it handles NFC data.
Why does my device detect an NFC tag but not show booking data?
If your device detects an NFC tag (eg you feel a vibration) but no booking appears, the device may not be passing usable NFC data to the Mobile Check-in app.
NFC performance depends on the device and how it handles NFC data, so it may not work consistently across all devices.
Where possible, use a barcode scanner or the device’s camera for a more reliable scanning experience.
