Before you can launch with ROLLER there are some key tasks that need to be completed to ensure you can process payments successfully and implement compatible hardware.
These tasks are listed below:
Audit your POS hardware
Regardless of whether you're purchasing new hardware or planning on using existing hardware with ROLLER, please refer to this guide to check whether the POS hardware you intend to use with ROLLER meets our minimum requirements.
If you’re purchasing new hardware, we recommend sharing our minimum requirements documentation with your supplier so they can work with you to ensure your order is compatible.
If you’re planning on using existing hardware with ROLLER, our auditing your POS article will help guide you in getting the specifications required to audit your computer/tablet.
My computer/tablet specifications are below the minimum requirements, can I still use it?
We don’t recommend using a computer/tablet that doesn’t meet our minimum requirements as this will greatly impact the speed and performance of ROLLER POS and result in a negative experience for both your POS operators and your guests.
What hardware is a POS station made up of?
- Computer / tablet
Optional (but recommended):
- Card terminal for processing card transactions
- Thermal receipt printer for printing receipts or production dockets
- Cash drawer for storing cash
- 2D barcode scanner for scanning ROLLER tickets and/or barcodes for stock items
Are iPads compatible with ROLLER?
No, because they don’t run a compatible Windows operating system. If your venue utilizes waivers, iPads can potentially be used as Waiver Kiosks.
Can we use ROLLER without the internet? What happens if my venue experiences frequent internet dropouts?
No ROLLER is cloud-based and requires the internet to function. We recommend clients who have frequent internet dropouts purchase a backup 3G/4G wifi dongle in case of emergency.
Can I set up a Cafe POS station to print dockets to my kitchen or coffee area?
Audit your card terminals
When processing card payments in ROLLER POS you have two options when it comes to choosing card terminals:
When processing transactions through ROLLER POS the transaction amounts will automatically appear on the card terminal for the customer to swipe / tap / insert their card
When processing transactions through ROLLER POS the POS operator will need to manually enter the transaction amount on the card terminal by matching the amount charged on ROLLER POS. Then take payment on the card terminal and complete the flow in ROLLER POS once the transaction is accepted.
Integrated is preferred as it leaves less room for error and streamlines reconciliation.

I will be using unintegrated card terminals with ROLLER
If you're using unintegrated card terminals with ROLLER there are no compatibility requirements. As long as your card terminals are able to process manual payments then they can be used with ROLLER in an unintegrated fashion.
Choose which card terminal integration you would like to use with ROLLER:
I will be using a third-party card terminal integration
If you're using a third-party card terminal integration you need to ensure you're using a supported card terminal integration that will work with ROLLER POS in your region.
Once you've confirmed this you will need to work with that third party to apply for a merchant account and order compatible card terminal models. We recommend letting that third party that you will be using ROLLER POS in case there's any special configuration that needs to occur.

Yes my card terminal order was included in my order form (If so, no further action is required here as ROLLER staff are already actioning your order)

Apply for an online payment gateway
In order to process online payments with ROLLER, you will need to apply for a supported online payment merchant account.

I'm using a third-party online payment gateway integration
If you're hoping to use a third-party online payment gateway integration you need to ensure you're using a supported integration that works in your region.
Once you've confirmed your provider, you will need to work with that third party to apply for a merchant account. We recommend letting that third party know that you will be using ROLLER in case there's any special configuration that needs to occur.
