Do your kitchen operations get overwhelmed, especially during peak periods? Or do you find that you need the ability to pause ordering of a particular menu item when it becomes low on stock? With ROLLER, gain complete control over your stock availability and suspend stock products at POS, as soon as you sell out (also known as 86'ing stock products).
This system safeguards POS operators from putting through items temporarily unavailable, as well as stopping guests from ordering these menu items from the mobile food & beverage checkout (for venues using this feature). This ensures smooth operations, especially during high-demand periods, and keeps your guests happy and prevents disruptions to your kitchen and service, which can have a frustrating flow on effect for both guests and staff.
This guide walks through how to suspend stock products at POS.
Requirements
A manager onsite, or POS operators, will need the following role permission: Can suspend stock items from online sales. This is because you’ll need a POS PIN to suspend stock items.
If you’re using mobile food & beverage checkouts, then you must add all stock products you sell in your food & beverage checkout to your POS menus if you’d like suspensions to flow through to online sales.
When to use
Here are two main use cases for suspending (86'ing) stock products at POS.
- Your cafe/kiosk/restaurant has sold out of a given stock product and you need to prevent staff selling this product at POS, or guests from ordering this product both at POS and online. Eg You’ve sold out of cola soft drinks.
- Your cafe/kiosk/restaurant is experiencing a surge of orders for a particular stock product (eg burgers) and needs to temporarily suspend orders so that the kitchen can meet production demands.
Add stock products to POS
In order to suspend stock products at POS, they must first be added to your POS menu.
If you also want stock suspensions at POS to flow through to online sales in your mobile food & beverage checkout, then make sure all items you sell in your food & beverage checkout are added to your POS template. Then link this template to the appropriate POS devices that use production management to print your production dockets.
Suspend a stock product that's unavailable
Once your stock items have been added to your POS templates, you’re ready to start suspending stock products when they become unavailable. Follow the steps below.
- From POS, use the left-side menus to navigate between various stock products. Find the stock product that’s unavailable or needs to be suspended.
- From the top of the screen, next to the search bar, select the Suspend from sales button.
- A manager or administrator will have to confirm this action by typing in their POS PIN. They require the role permission: Can suspend items from online sales to do so.
- Select the stock product you would like to suspend. A blue check mark will appear in the top-right corner of the product tile. You can select more than one stock product if needed.
- Confirm the suspension by selecting the blue confirmation button at the top of the screen.
- The stock product is then marked as Suspended on the product tile.
If a stock product is marked as Suspended, it will no longer be available to order in your mobile food & beverage checkout as well (if your venue is using this feature).
Make a stock product available online again
When you’re ready to start selling again, simply follow steps 1-3 above, select the stock product to remove the blue check mark and confirm it’s back in stock by selecting the blue confirmation button at the top of the screen. The Suspended banner will be removed from the product tile.
Once this is done, guests will also be able to order the product from your mobile food & beverage checkout again (for venues using this feature).
